Food Allergy And Anaphylaxis

Untill they have eaten the food allergen itself, anybody can know if they are sensitive to a certain type of food. A certain amount has to be ingested for the alacrity to take place and trigger a symptom.

Food allergy and anaphylaxis are closely related, but each has particular specificities.

Moreover a patient can also develop reactions to foods that are closely related to the original food allergy he or she has.

For example, an allergy to oysters can lead to an allergic reaction when the person eats other seafoods.

In food allergy, the individual’s immune system reacts in two ways. The body may respond through the use of mast cells. These mast cells can come about at just any part of the human body but its favorite spots forge itself known to the world is in the throat, lungs, eyes, skin, and especially the organs of the gastrointestinal system.

The other type of response is through the body’s release of immunoglobulin E antibodies that drive through the blood system. It then eventually causes the action of the body chemical histamine, which hence causes the activation of allergic reactions in the common body sites previously mentioned.

On the other hand, anaphylaxis is derived from the Greek inflection ana and phylaxis, which mean back and protection. Main causes of anaphylaxis include insect stings, long contact to latex, medications, and food. Anaphylaxis may also have unknown causes.

Anaphylaxis is very similar to food allergy; the only difference is the small amount of the allergens required for the reaction to take place. The time from early signs to symptoms can be a few seconds up to a few hours for allergen exposure.

Basically, an attack of anaphylaxis initially starts with an itchy or irritating sensation, and some individuals have a metallic after-taste. Then come other symptoms like hot flashes or sweating, inflammation of the throat, low blood pressure, diarrhea, gastric irritations, fainting or loss of consciousness.

There are cases where the symptoms appear first but then come back within a few hours; this is known as biphasic reaction.
Anaphylaxis can come after intake of food, skin contact, or acts as smooth as inhalation of food aroma. Anaphylactic shock can be life threatening and anaphylactic shake only needs a tiny amount of food allergens is to cause death to the sufferer within moments of exposure.

Countries in danger are the ones where most of the population has allergies to food, asthma, and eczema. An anaphylactic functioning can be fatal there.

Studies show that an increasing population group has anaphylaxis with unknown cause and also that teenagers are more and more afflicted with a certain type of food allergy.
The teenager’s habits like eating out, daring and experimenting, are more likely to get symptoms of anaphylactic reaction.

To prevent from food allergy and anaphylactic reactions, it is important to carefully study food labels, modify diet, five specific instructions when ordering in restaurants.
Certain medications can be a good help in reducing the symptoms during a reaction. The family physician might give good advises even more valuable if there is hereditary causes.
