teen-agers pass through difficulties: body changes, hormones, identity
seek, etc…

teens today than 20 years ago, which can cause various problems in
the future such as diabetes and heart disease.
Some of the kids can be
easily influenced by bad or even dangerous diet programs. Be cautious
that many teens are proposed pills to succeed in weight loss.
As we all know, the best way to lose extra pounds is exercising and
having a healthy diet. But when there is no other solution, medication
can be a good help. |
Weight loss pills are
designed to make a person lose weight by suppressing appetite. The only drug
approved by the FDA for kids between 12 and 16 is Xenical, which
before was only used by women.
This medication contains active principle, Orlistat that blocks the
absorbing of fat and releases this out through the intestine as waste.
In a comparative study done between those who took the drug and those on a
placebo diet, results prove that the people here lost an average of seven to
eight pounds, which is much higher than the others.
The test group did not just take Xenical to get the results. These people
also had to follow a strict diet plan and exercise to maintain the
weight.
One of the things is also to watch out for side effects such as going
frequently to the toilet.
Xenical is a prescription drug that cannot just be bought off the counter.
It is only after a proper medical consultation that the physician makes a
prescription for this drug.
As for any pills, the results depend patient's metabolism. The result of the
study only gives an average.
Patients are advised to stop
the intake of Xenical if there are no signs of improvement after six months.
Doctors sometimes propose stronger medication such as Meridia.
Meridia is a diet pill that makes the person thinks that the body is in food
saturation only after eating only a few servings. The active principle
ingredient is called Sibutramine.
There also are two other diet
pills that the patient may take: Bontril and Didrex. But these
ones are quite addictive and therefore can only be used for a short period
of time.
Diet pills such as those
mentioned are only used for teens that are medically observed as obese. They
can be very efficient to make them succeed in a weight loss program aimed to
help them being healthy. Those who have just little excess weight just have
to start a diet and exercise.
